Fresh Terms Given to Three Trustees
PERAA ADMINISTRATORS gave an overwhelming affirmation of confidence to Dr. Ben S. Malayang III and Fr.John Christian U. Young by voting for them to serve as Trustee at-large and Trustee from Mindanao, respectively, up to April 30, 2017. At the same time, the PERAA Board of Trustees appointed Bro. Ray B. Suplido. FSC, as Trustee at-large to finish the term of Fr. Antonio F. Moreno, SJ who resigned due to his appointment as Provincial Superior of the Philippine Jesuits.
Dr. Malayang, current president of Silliman University, Dumaguete City, was nominated by the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities to the PERAA Board in 2009. He was the 10th and the last Trustee representing ACSCU in the PERAA Board after members ratified the restructuring of Board Composition to six trustees at-large, one representative each from the National Capital, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao plus the PERAA President. He has a Ph.D in Wildland Resource Science (Univ of Carolina) and an MA in Internal Affairs (Ohio Univ.)
Fr. John Christian U. Young, president of Fr. Saturnino Urios University, Butuan City, was appointed by the PERAA Board in 2011, to complete the term of Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, SJ. who was transferred to Ateneo de Manila Univ. to take the post as university president from Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro. An MA graduate in Pastoral Ministry, Philosophical Studies (Ateneo de Manila) and a Doctoral Candidate in Missiology (Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome), he also took a course for Ecclesiastical Financial Administration (CBCP and UST-Manila).
Bro. Ray is currently, president-chancellor of the University of St. La Salle, Bacolod City, the third biggest Participating Institution in the Visayas Region in terms of accumulated value. He also serves as Regional Director of Asia & the Pacific International Association of Lasallian Universities and as Director of the Brothers’ Community, DLSU – Manila. He is the third La Sallian brother who served in the PERAA Board – after Bro. Rolando Dizon, FSC, representing CEAP for nine years and Bro. Andrew Gonzalez, FSC, Board Chair for six years. . Bro. Ray will serve the board until April 30, 2015.
