History
of PERAA
THE
Private Education Retirement Annuity Association was formally
organized on September 2, 1972 with the signing of the Trust Agreement. There
were 22 founding members* of PERAA though only 14 institutions,
who braved the gloomy weather, made it that night.
Established
as a private, non-profit, employees' trust under the auspices
of Fund for Assistance to Private Education, PERAA is the first
comprehensive retirement program in the country. It was modeled
after the Teachers Insurance Annuity Association - College Retirement
Equity Fund or TIAA-CREF (the multi-billion dollar retirement
system for teachers in the U.S.). Today, it has evolved into
a solid, self-reliant association.
PERAA
remains true to its mission of strengthening retirement security
among human resources of private education.
