Our Mission

To provide adequate and affordable retirement programs to participating private educational institutions through the achievement of economies of scale from commonly managed funding and retirement arrangements, and by operating as a non-profit organization administered by a highly motivated and competent Board of Trustees.

Philosophy

PERAA believes that teachers and employees of private education deserve a decent life at retirement through adequate lifetime income.

PERAA believes that the retirement security of private school employees is the concern not only of the government, the institution, the employee, but also of responsible leaders in the private education sector.

PERAA believes that effective preparation for successful retirement should start during active service.

History of PERAA

THE Private Education Retirement Annuity Association was formally organized on September 2, 1972 with the signing of the Trust Agreement. There were 22 founding members* of PERAA though only 14 institutions, who braved the gloomy weather, made it that night.

Established as a private, non-profit, employees' trust under the auspices of Fund for Assistance to Private Education, PERAA is the first comprehensive retirement program in the country. It was modeled after the Teachers Insurance Annuity Association - College Retirement Equity Fund or TIAA-CREF (the multi-billion dollar retirement system for teachers in the U.S.). Today, it has evolved into a solid, self-reliant association.

PERAA remains true to its mission of strengthening retirement security among human resources of private education.
